Katherine Waymire started the kitchen tool design company Talisman Designs from her basement in 2001 with just a few handmade products. The first one was a wine accessory that you wrap around the stem of a wineglass. In 2005, her business growth accelerated with the invention of the Butter Boy, a butterer which is a fun and mess-free way to butter your corn on the cob. She continued to design new tools such as the Cherry Chomper Cherry Pitter, Kiddie Kones, and many more.
As her business grew, she needed a way to continue to invest in her business with working capital and lines of credit to purchase inventory.Katherine began working with commercial lender Joe Arends from North American Banking Company in 2006.
Since then, Talisman Designs has expanded to an office and warehouse location in St. Louis Park, MN with three employees, hundreds of products, and many more satisfied customers. Talisman Designs products have been featured on The Today Show, the Rachael Ray Show, and many other national shows. Their products are known for their utility and creativity and are sold at major retailers throughout the country.
Waymire credits much of her company’s success to the working relationship she has developed with Arends as her banker.
“Joe has been a tremendous help to me over the years,” she says. “He is a trusted advisor and friend and is able to help me get the funding I need to grow my business.”
Waymire also appreciates the staff at North American Banking Company. “When I walk in, they greet me by my first name right away and are always very pleasant. They understand my business and seem genuinely interested in seeing it succeed.”
