Meet Business Banker Brad Benesh
"I can drive down the street and see businesses and buildings I helped finance."
Helpful. Honest. Enthusiastic.
These are just a few words business owners use to describe Brad Benesh, our senior vice president of Business Banking. With nearly four decades of banking experience, Brad knows what’s required from a banker at every stage of the business life cycle—from idea to startup though growth, expansion, and exit.
Brad spent his early career in Grand Rapids, MN, first as a radio DJ, then as a banker at a small bank where he was responsible for a variety of loans. By the time he was 27, he was in charge of the bank’s business loan department.
A few years later, he moved to the Twin Cities, where he worked for two community banks and specialized in helping business owners secure the financing they needed to start, run, and grow their businesses. In 2006, he joined North American Banking Company, and he’s been helping businesses secure financing ever since.
“I came because of the bank’s emphasis on business loans,” says Brad. “But I stay because of the great people I get to work with.”
Those people include his coworkers, of course, but also his customers, many of whom have become good friends over the years. Take Willie Hendrickson, for instance. The founder and CEO of AVEKA, Willie describes Brad this way: “He’s my banker, but he’s also a friend and confidante who’s not afraid to push back when he thinks I’m making a mistake.”
Brad’s also not afraid to seek out creative solutions. “I know how to structure a wide range of loans and have experience in many different industries, so I can often come up with alternative ways to help a business reach its goals,” says Brad.
One of the things Brad takes great pride in is the impact he’s had. “I can drive down the street and see businesses and buildings I helped finance.”
Take Paws Unleashed, for example. “I don’t know if anyone else would have taken the time to get to know the mother/daughter team that started the business, but I did—and I was impressed by what I saw. They took their passion for dogs and created a thriving doggy daycare. And now, thanks to a loan I put together, they own a beautiful facility in Woodbury that even includes a spa for their four-legged friends. Seeing that makes me feel great.”
